Short answer, a plant.
CBD, aka Cannabidiol, comes from Industrial Hemp. Hemp was recently approved as an agricultural crop in the United States, and its scientific name is Cannabis sativa. Hemp’s well known cousin Marijuana is a different type of Cannabis sativa, one that produces a lot of THC, the psychoactive compound that makes people feel ‘high’.
It’s important to note that Hemp and Marijuana differ in one very specific way. While Marijuana produces a lot of THC and very little CBD, Hemp is the opposite, producing a lot of CBD and very little THC. This means that hemp does not produce the same intoxicating psychoactive effects as marijuana, because it has very little THC.
Hemp is a plant that has been growing around the world for centuries. It originated in Central Asia, and has traveled around the globe producing medicines, food products and fiber for building materials. In 1606, hemp made its way into the Americas, and by 1840, the hemp industry in the United States was strong.
Hemp was used mainly for its fiber, which can be made into fabrics or building materials. In the 20th century, lawmakers began to restrict hemp production due to its close association with marijuana, and in 1970, Cannabis sativa was classified as a schedule one drug. Even though hemp does not produce much THC, the reason for the outlaw, it was grouped together with varieties that produce high THC.
That all changed in 2018 when the Hemp Farming Act was passed. Lawmakers made the official distinction between hemp and marijuana, and legalized hemp production in the United States, as long as the THC level in the plants is very low ( <0.3%).
CBD, along with 100+ other similar compounds classified as ‘cannabinoids’, are produced by hemp plants. The flowers are the main source of these cannabinoids, while the leaves and stems contain much less. CBD, CBG, CBN, and THC are some of the most prominent cannabinoids found in hemp, but CBD is usually produced in the highest quantity.
After Industrial Hemp is planted, grows, and produces cannabinoid rich flowers, it is then harvested and dried. In order to extract the CBD, other cannabinoids, and terpenes, the dried hemp is ground up and sent to an extraction facility where the cannabinoids and terpenes are separated from the plant material to produce an oil with high concentrations of CBD.
In a sense, YES! At DR. DIOL®, our Colorado grown industrial hemp undergoes thorough quality control from the moment it is planted. Our in-house testing capabilities allow us to test the plants for cannabinoid levels and to make sure there is no contamination.
It is then sent to our facility, which uses large scale extraction techniques and a proprietary purification technology to produce a broad spectrum, THC-Free, CBD rich extract with all of the naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes included. Our analytical lab allows us to test our product through every stage of the process in order to make sure we are providing a consistent, premium quality hemp extract every time.
When someone mentions CBD they’re generally referring to one of three different CBD variants.
Full-Spectrum CBD contains several naturally occurring cannabis plant extracts, such as terpenes and other cannabinoids, including THC (up to .3% total weight).
Broad-Spectrum CBD also contains several cannabis plant compounds, but it is typically entirely free of THC. That said, there may sometimes be trace amounts of THC in broad spectrum CBD products.
CBD Isolate is the third common type of CBD. This is the purest, most isolated form of CBD, containing no other cannabis plant compounds.
DR. DIOL® believes in providing consumers with a Broad-Spectrum formula that retains the plant’s original terpenes and phytocannabinoids to boost results, while making sure there is always Zero mg THC, so you can still go about your busy life while maintaining a clear mind.
Bioavailability is the amount of any compound or substance that enters the bloodstream when introduced to the body. In order from most to least bioavailable, CBD can be processed via inhalation, tinctures, oral ingestion, then topical products. At DR. DIOL® we currently offer all but CBD inhalation options (at the moment). Every body is different, and certain metabolisms respond better to different forms of CBD. Although tinctures offer a quicker form of ingestible absorption, both our edible options have an exact measured dose so you can easily track how much you take. Topicals are there for you when you require necessary spot treatment support. The most beneficial way to utilize CBD, especially for pain/inflammation, is to use both internally and externally.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a regulatory system found in all vertebrate species, including humans. This system, and the natural cannabinoids produced by the body that interact with the ECS, serve to maintain homeostasis (Cottone 2013). This means that it sends feedback signals to cells to make sure their function is balanced, and not overactive or stagnant.
Cannabis and its cannabinoids have been used for centuries in order to interact with this complex system in our body. In fact, the reason we know about the ECS is because cannabis has been widely used throughout history and scientists wanted to know how it functioned in our body (Marzo 2004). Like the endogenous cannabinoids already present in our bodies, THC and CBD are able to interact with the ECS receptors to produce their desired effects. The reason cannabinoids are being touted to the pharmaceutical industry is due to the fact that we have receptors for these molecules all over our body. THC binds strongly to CB1 receptors. Because there is such a high concentration of CB1 in the brain, people get the psychoactive effects that THC is known for. The reason this psychoactivity doesn’t last forever is because humans already have the enzymes necessary to break down cannabinoids. CBD also interacts with these receptors, although studies have shown that it can actually block CB1 receptors, lessening the undesirable or psychoactive effects of THC (McPartland 2014).
Well, that depends! CBD affects everybody differently because each body’s endocannabinoid system is unique. Finding your perfect dose can depend on your weight, body size, gender, age, and even how much food and water you have consumed.
When beginning your CBD journey, start with anywhere from 5-25 mg CBD once a day and see how you feel after one week of sticking to this same routine (same mg, same time of day). You can even track your daily usage and feelings in a journal to keep note of your experiences. If necessary, up your CBD dosage or frequency and see how you feel after another full week before making further adjustments. If necessary keep upping your dosage and/or frequency of use each week until you find your sweet spot.
Pro Tip: For best results take with food or lipids. Taking CBD with a high fat content food will increase bioavailability and boost results!
Don’t forget that CBD takes time to notice and consistency is of utmost importance to get the most out of your CBD experience. In some cases, it could take a full month of regular use to feel the total benefits of CBD. The feeling of CBD can be associated with less of a feeling and more the absence of one; the absence of anxiety, the absence of inflammation. Taking your CBD needs to become a habit and remembering to always stick to your CBD routine for at least 1 week before and after adjusting dosage and/or frequency will maximize your results.
We’re all becoming more and more aware of what exactly we’re putting into our bodies. When we’re looking for support throughout the day, we don’t want psychoactive effects to hinder our day to day lives. This is why at DR. DIOL® we go above and beyond to make sure there is 0.0% THC in our CBD products. Some competitors equate the legal definition of Industrial Hemp (0.3% THC by weight) as “THC-Free” which is clearly not the same. Our claims to THC-Free are exponentially different. DR. DIOL® claims Non-detect (ND) levels of THC in our products which means that sophisticated analytical equipment is not able to detect any THC in DR. DIOL’s® CBD oils. Other competitors aren’t able to say the same about their CBD products and some products even contain amounts of THC that could get you high.
Whilst the majority of consumers assume they are purchasing products which contain cannabinoids that occur naturally in hemp, it is very common for many of these products to contain cannabinoids that have been artificially produced or chemically modified from industrial hemp derivatives after extraction. Novel cannabinoid molecules created through synthesis are chemically very different from their naturally derived counterparts. This means that the human body doesn’t have the appropriate enzymes to break them down, which could be very dangerous. DR. DIOL® NEVER uses synthetic compounds or processes to chemically modify our cannabinoids. Our process is conducted without extreme temperature or pressure. Extracting and purifying our oils at ambient temperature ensures minimal degradation and damage to the cannabinoids and terpenes. We employ our TruSpeKtrum™ technology, a patent protected purification process which “plucks” out THC from the extract without any chemical modification.
We believe the concept of an apple a day keeps the doctor away is highly underrated. Cannabinoids are not THE answer but we’re confident people need access to them to live healthier lives. We believe Cannabinoids are the modern day apple and thus believe it is our fiduciary duty to provide people access to clinically backed Cannabinoid products that will improve life. We want to give significantly easier access to alternative care.
All DD products are non-psychoactive and have 0.0% THC.
Kazmira’s claim of THC-Free is at levels unmatched by other CBD manufacturers. While other companies are claiming THC-Free with respect to a legal definition of THC content (<0.3% by weight), our claim is a more scientific one. We are comfortable claiming 0.0% THC because third-party tests are not able to detect ANY THC in our products.
DR. DIOL’s® products are lab-tested for purity and potency to ensure proper, consistent dosage.

Some people have very low THC tolerance before reaching an uncomfortable psychoactive state, even as low as 5mg THC.
A standard cannabis joint has 300mg of cannabis, averaging near 16%THC.
300mg × 0.16 = 48mg THC
30mL of CBD oil at 0.3% THC shows:
.3g / 100mL × 1000 = 300mg / 100mL = 3mg / mL
Oil density 3mg / mL × 97.5% = 2.925mg / mL
2.925mg × 30mL = 87.75mg THC
Therefore, a full tincture of CBD oil at 0.3% THC contains almost twice as much THC as an entire marijuana joint, which makes it very possible to experience psychoactive effects.

Everyone reacts to CBD differently and it really depends what you take CBD for. CBD is best taken daily and can be taken multiple times a day. A good starting dose is anywhere from 5 to 25 mg. Up your dosage or frequency if required. There are no psychoactive effects with CBD so don’t worry about taking too large of a dose. Pro tip: for best results take with food or lipids.
The quickest form of absorption, aside from inhaling, is through your salivary glands. Our tinctures are absorbed the fastest into your blood stream. The edibles (soft gels and gummies) can take longer to feel the effects due to them being processed through the stomach. All of our topical products are hardly absorbed into the blood stream due to them being applied externally, but they do allow for specific spot management.
The most beneficial form of taking CBD is by taking it both internally and externally.
Current research has not been established that proves CBD to be addictive, but changes in the field and technology promise more information soon.
Please consult your doctor before using if pregnant, nursing, or have any other medical concerns.
Please consult your doctor before taking CBD along with other prescription drugs.
